TOWNSEND RESIDENCE After the 1991 Oakland fire, we were tasked with recreating a house lost to the fire without benefit of drawings or photographs of the original, which was built in 1956. With a few modern conveniences and a nod to current building codes, we were paid the highest compliment: "It's my house, only better." Some years later, we were asked to remodel and add to the house for a new family...an opportunity to improve, refine and apply our long-standing knowledge of the building.
